Chicago-born electronic producer Mielo has unveiled the second single from his forthcoming EP Anywhere But Here, and it's a doozy.
"Scar" is a dark and dreamy future bass tune at a deceiving 90 BPM. Future bass songs at that tempo tend to be more bouncy, but Mielo opts to go half-time, brilliantly creating tension throughout the track's airy arrangement. Los Angeles-based pop artist Cailee Rae provides a feathery topline, singing forcefully about the toxic tendencies of music industry relations with an emotive stoicism. A lot of artists breaching the same topic tend to come off as petulant, but Cailee sings with a phlegmatic chip on her shoulder and gives the song a more edgy feel. The highlight of "Scar," though, is its soul-stirring chorus, where Mielo interlaces distorted leads with eerie vocal chops to haunting effect. It's a solid addition to his catalog of similarly enchanting electronic tunes, which you can peruse via the links below.
