For anyone dumb enough to question the validity of female record producers in 2019, SJae is here to put you in your place. The South Wales native and current Los Angeles resident has contributed music to a multitude of artists, television and film projects, and various international brands but is now ready to release her own debut EP on March 22 simply titled FIRST. The news comes in conjunction with the release of the EP’s third single entitled “All I Think About,” which features R&B legend Raphael Saadiq and is premiering today on EARMILK. The project is said to be the first in a series of collaborative EPs that will also feature Sam Sparro, Dria Thornton, and Hilaire.
“All I Think About” finds Saadiq in excitingly unusual terrain for him as he croons over SJae’s propulsive electronic production that is ready for the dance floor. The two interweave various lyrics about an all-consuming romance. One of the most interesting moments comes in the song’s bridge, where SJae breaks down the music and delivers some sleek vocal layering that grabs the audience’s attention. Although it doesn’t feel necessary based on her resume, “All I Think About” feels like a statement piece from SJae. With this strong single and a forthcoming EP stacked with talent, it’s clear that she is way past needing to prove herself to anybody.
