British songstress Rosie Lowe has made a valiant return to the global music consciousness with her new single “Birdsong.” The tastefully funky track comes from her forthcoming sophomore album entitled YU, which is due out on May 10 via Wolf Tone. The LP follows her debut Control from 2016 and will feature some exciting guests including rapper Jay Electronica and production from Dave Okumu. For instance, in “Birdsong,” Lowe enlists Jordan Rakei, Jamie Woon, Jamie Lidell, and Kwabs for some heavenly backup vocals.

It’s almost impossible to avoid nodding one’s head throughout “Birdsong.” Beautifully disjointed production from Okumu pairs impeccably with Lowe’s silky vocal delivery. In addition, the song’s hook is an absolute gem as Lowe’s rhythmic singing weaves through the aforementioned backup choir. In her lyrics, she describes the draw of an inescapable romance that may have questionable results: “Baby the love that you give, gets me to heaven, to paradise / every note that you sing, gets me undoing something right… to the early morning, I’m waiting to hear your birdsong.” The song also features a fascinating video directed by Jovan Todorovic. With her astounding artistic powers on display with “Birdsong” and a formidable team behind her, Rosie Lowe’s new album will certainly be one to watch in 2019.

Rosie Lowe will be touring Europe in March. Find dates and tickets here.
