Award-winning Tanzanian pop star Vanessa Mdee delivers her first single of the year, entitled “That’s For Me.” The track is a collaboration between the singer and a handful of acts such as the South African production team known as DISTRUCTION BOYZ, DJ Tira and Prince Bulo. Over a vibrant Gqom production, Mdee peppers the hypnotic groove with sweet melodies and a distinct sexy pop vibe. While she handles most of the vocals on the song, Prince Bulo pops in near the end with a short performance that helps hype up the listener. Taking on the role of a powerful individual in the male-dominated industry, Mdee doesn't follow the rules but breaks them.
The rhythmic record gets a visual boost with its vibrant aesthetic from the colorful costumes and energetic choreography. The scenes are pretty fascinating from Mdee's vintage-tinged solo scene, Prince Bulo's car stunt scene to the various street dancers doing their thing. “That’s For Me” is Mdee’s international debut, with her new label Afroforce1 and Universal Music Africa.
