Griselda Records standout Benny The Butcher made waves in November when he dropped his highly acclaimed Tana Talk 3 album, which quickly shot up to #4 on Apple's Hip-Hop chart. Now, the Buffalo-based rapper is back in the mix with some gritty visuals for "Rubber Bands & Weight," a hard-hitting joint off TT3. The track is laced by legendary producer and fellow label-mate Alchemist, who cuts up a head-nodding beat that's dripping with vintage NY steez.
There's a reason Benny recently made Fuse TV's "12 Artists to Watch" list. Like Liam Neeson himself, this butcher has a very particular set of skills, and he uses each one of his meat cleavers on "Rubber Bands & Weight." Few emcees can slice through an Alchemist record like Benny, effortlessly dropping bars like "Sat down at a meeting, manteca on the menu / Red laser on the nickel, turn a hater to a Hindu." The Slim Gus-directed visuals complement Benny's slick NY street talk to a tee, depicting him, of course, in a deli apron, waving a butcher's knife as he references Karl Malone, prison bids, and shooters rockin' Air Max 97s.
If you're funkin' with "Rubber Bands & Weight," you definitely need to pop Tana Talk 3 in your deck. The project, featuring Griselda/Shady Records mainstays Westside Gunn, Conway, Royce Da 5’9, and Meyhem Lauren, can be streamed and/or purchased below.
