Joris Voorn spent his year renovating. Not renovating his sound or his image, but rather, in the literal sense, updating his studio space near his home in Amsterdam. His latest single, "Genova," is the fruit of his labor.
Released via his own Green label, "Genova" is a reminder of the void that is created when a successful artist goes on a bit of a hiatus in making music. In hindsight, 2018 was a quieter year for the Dutch artist, with this single being nearly his only statement of artistry this year. Just in time it seems, and "Genova" is memorable in its melodic tech house style. Voorn has mastered the moodiness of his music, telling a story as the track progresses. Fit for a bigger room than some of Voorn's past work – like that on his 2014 album Nobody Knows – this single is surely inspired by the new space in which it was made.
