With pounding drums, pulsating bass and poignant lyrics, alt rock five-piece Bizou have just released their highly anticipated single 'Superstition'. The stunningly haunting vocals detail a continuous battle with anxiety, where your brain takes over your body, “A frightened noise, don’t listen. Don’t listen at all.” 'Superstition' is about blocking out the negativity when one voice is telling you to stay calm and another has you in a state of panic. What is the difference between our instinct and our paranoia?
Bizou is Marisa Prietto (lead vocal), Nicole Fiorentino (bass and backing vocals), Erin Tidwell (drums), Nicki Nevlin (guitar), and Josiah Mazzaschi (guitar and programming) all remarkable musicians in their own right. Members have played in or backed influential bands such as Smashing Pumpkins, Veruca Salt, and Tennis System. Crossing paths in the Los Angeles music scene, they all became close friends and from there Bizou was born.
Influenced by The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and New Order, their sound is reminiscent of post-punk and new wave but with a modern twist. Treading the line between dark and somber yet still managing to be bright, the music perfectly showcases the single’s message of two conflicting feelings. Always generating authentic music that’s relatable to others, Bizou is fearlessly honest baring the innermost thoughts that occur in times of inner conflict, and mental illness.
