Billie Eilish returns with heart-wrenching "when the party's over"

After the release of her fire-sparking single "you should see me in a crown", Billie Eilish is back. Her latest single "when the party's over" is a master class in production and feels like the young singer dropped her whole heart in the world's hands.

Co-written with her older brother Finneas (who also produces the track), the song is a minimalist slow burner which somehow manages to maintain her brand of ballsy production and delicate, dreamy vocal. "when the party's over" is a story. Deeply emotional with a melody that sounds like a series of inhales and exhales, the sixteen-year-old taps into an aching fragility. The track was released the day before the beginning of her already sold-out 1 By 1 tour, along with an announcement that Eilish would be selling items from her personal closet and donating all the proceeds to Marley's Mutt's Pawsitive Change program.

I first heard this track at one of her shows, and I wept. The studio version elicits the same response. Billie and Finneas' creativity and honesty are not things to take lightly—these people are the present and future of pop music.
