Ray BLK follows up her previously released single "Run Run" with another powerful gem titled "Empress". In her usual fashion, she delivers a very potent message to all black girls trying to get ahead in this patriarchal industry. She empowers her sisters and women, in general, to push the envelope by not settling for less and always aim for better choices be it in a relationship or career choice.
Musically, RAY BLK goes for a minimal sound with just a backing acoustic guitar arrangement which allows her passionate vocals to shine through effortlessly. The visuals are particularly striking and start off with a vignette shot of Ray BLK in a theatre which eventually pans out into a bigger scene with various other characters.
The video itself was shot at London's Charing Cross Theatre and features special guest appearances from Maya Jama, Julie Adenuga and some of Ray's closest friends. It was directed by award-winning Geej Ower, best known for her work on the acclaimed BBC documentary 'The Poets Will Be Heard'.
