There’s a newcomer to the alternative R&B scene in London who is poised to take off. Multi-instrumentalist, singer, and producer ONUR has arrived with his debut single “Beamin.’” The captivating, self-produced track shows that the British artist already has a unique perspective, both musically and lyrically.

“Beamin’” shows an impressive amount of restraint, especially for an up-and-comer like ONUR. His decisions as a producer show maturity, opting for a “less is more” approach to song craft. At the foundation of the track is it’s understated, bubbling drums and some percussive synth chords that keep the momentum throughout as he lays some addition sparse production effects over the top.
ONUR proves to be an effective vocalist as well on “Beamin,’” offering up some passionate lyrics about the need to keep moving forward in life, especially after adversity. His words allude to a failed relationship, but could really be applied to a broader theme of perseverance. Rounding out the vocal delivery on “Beamin’” is ONUR’s own layered backup vocals, which often soar into his impressive falsetto range.
It’s hard to believe that “Beamin’” is ONUR’s debut release, with all of the clever techniques and mature sensibilities on display. Luckily, it is the first of several more singles that will be released, all leading up to an EP planned for the beginning of 2019.
