Seriously, what is going on in Brighton right now?! Over the past few weeks, a rap duo named Para Fiction has dropped gem after gem of gnarled rap/punk tunes. And today, we have yet another Brighton rap duo, but one that sits on the complete opposite side of the spectrum. Please meet Frankie Stew and Harvey Gunn, a rapper/producer duo bringing you mellow, meditative music that swims like a dreamy epiphany.
In their video for “Love One Another” Frankie muses on just about everything happening in his life. He jumps from topic to topic in a way that mirrors our generations tiny attention span all too well. What’s more, he does this all over Harvey’s flighty, dreamy and scattered beat.
The two artists have undeniable chemistry which is evident by their respective halves of the track coming together with such fluidity and ease. While Frankie is admitting he spent some of his cash needlessly on new sneakers, Harvey’s productions are breathing in and out, filling out the song with a plethora of layers and then drawing them away just as fast as they arrived.
Visually, the video for “Love One Another” matches the tone of the song perfectly. The Anna&Kate film makes good use of soft colors and a few old-school TVs to give the flick its desired fanciful, yet introspective feel.
Frankie Stew and Harvey Gunn are hardly new on the scene, but if this is your first intro into their music, you’re in the right place. “Love One Another” is their second single of 2018, which hopefully means us fans are in store for a few more tracks very soon.
