South Korean septet iKON made their comeback on August 2, dropping a new EP, New Kids: Continue, led by the powerful single "죽겠다(KILLING ME)." The highly anticipated music video was released the same day, adding high-energy, blazing visuals and illustrative choreography to the haunting bassline.
While iKON’s previous mega-hit “Love Scenario” is a playful reflection on a fleeting relationship, “Killing Me” details the inescapable feeling of being haunted by a past love. The song quietly begins with creeping staccato, while the boy band’s leader, B.I, delivers the opening verse with a tormented plea that rapper Bobby and vocalists DK, Song, Jay, Ju-ne and Chan build on as the song reaches its climax. But the uneasiness of the verses gives way to a drop that truly feels like a reward —and when it finally hits, the track suddenly bursts into a thumping, electro-dance break with a sexy, hypnotic synth line.
New Kids: Continue is the second release by the YG Entertainment-managed band this year, having dropped New Kids: Return in January. B.I is a producer on the newest EP, which includes four other tracks: “Freedom,” “Only You,” “Cocktail” and “Just For You.” In true K-pop fashion, each range in style, from punk rock to heartfelt ballad. The video for “Killing Me” gained more than 5 million views on YouTube in only 24 hours — a new record for the 3-year-old group, and hopefully a harbinger of more success to come.
iKON is currently preparing for the Asian leg of their first world tour, which kicks off in Seoul on August 18th.
