In his latest video, “Beautiful” London MC Dotty pays tribute to everyone out there who is dealing with self-confidence issues in this crazy world of ours.
“Beautiful” starts out with Dotty grabbing a camera and heading into a photo shoot. Throughout his verse, he plays photographer, snapping pics of a beautiful model while rapping his words of encouragement. As he does, however, the scene cuts in and out to the young model sneaking away to the bathroom to vomit.
After the chorus, brought to you buy singer Bobii Lewis, the second half of the video starts with another girl, this time unsure about her look and makeup choices. For this segment, Lewis does the photographing while singing the words of his respective verse.
This track is the product of clean production work from Copta Beats and Mike Keyz, who lay a graceful, lightly flowing backdrop of sound for Dotty's smooth hip-hop rhymes. The subtle piano play adds this bit of elegance to the track and masterfully sets the stage for Bobii Lewis to drop this beautiful vocal delivery.
The theme of the song and video boils down to loving yourself and not trying to compare yourself to others. While that’s nothing new, it’s nice to hear artists putting stock into an ideal that seems so lost in a world overrun by social media. And to take it a step further from message to action, Dotty and crew wrap up the video with information on Beat Eating Disorders, a charity for adults and youths who are struggling with the disorder.
