What I love about electronic remixes of songs from other genres is that they have a way of taking what's good about the original and concentrating it – like sugar cane into molasses. Though it was released only months ago, Tundran's original "Every Wave" has a throwback rock feel that would have been at home on the airwaves around the same time that Fleetwood Mac was dominating them with "Dreams."
Premiering on EARMILK and releasing on PRMD Music, Colombian-born and Miami-based Flapo gives an electronic makeover to "Every Wave." The vocals shimmer and sail atop a sexy summer pool party-ready groove. The drum beat and cymbals of the original give way to electronic bass and hi-hat loops. Often electronic remixes end up over doing things and the result is as teeth shattering as a spoonful of pure molasses. With his multi-instrumental background, Flapo adds just enough electronic sweetness to the original, and the result is pure ear candy. As I listened to this for the first time, I was reminded of the way that Deep Dish expanded the dynamic range of "Dreams" with their 2006 remix in a way that teleported the original into present time. Flapo successfully takes the throwback feel of the original "Every Wave" and propels it right onto your summer playlist.
