The title may be “Nothing New,” but Charlotte Day Wilson’s silky new track is anything but old news. Over an up-tempo beat (produced by the singer/songwriter herself), Wilson muses on the themes that seem to recur over and over in relationships.
Aside from being a kickass song that sounds incredible, “Nothing New” is exciting in that it’s a break from the usual Charlotte. That’s not to say she needs to change, her last EP, CDW, is near perfect in a mellow, lounge sort of way, but it’s great to see Charlotte’s range. Where her previous tracks were soft and velvety, “Nothing New” has an intergalactic soul vibe emanating from it.
If “Nothing New” and “Doubt” are any indication, Wilson’s upcoming EP Stone Woman is sure to be one hell of a record. Stone Woman hits digital shelves February 23rd, giving us all just enough time to memorize “Nothing New” until something new drops.
