No Regular Play pick up remix duties of DRAMA's "Barely Friends" [Premiere]

One of the best parts of dance music is the predilection of artists to redo and remix other artist’s work. One such self-released remix package coming out this week, Gallows (Remixes), is a remix collection of DRAMA's Gallows EP last year, with Drama being the moniker of a Na’el Shehade and Via Rosa collaboration. No Regular Play, the Brooklyn based Crew Love duo known for their ability to seamlessly frame jazz, Cuban, and classical influences through a house lens was able to pick up remix duties on “Barely Friends” off the release.

No Regular Play does well to keep the piano chords of the intro in the original as a way to ground their down-tempo, melancholic remix of “Barely Friends.” A tension is soon introduced with a sharp, crisp percussion that keeps the track moving while still somehow retaining its slightly weighed-down feel. No Regular Play’s own touch is most aptly felt with the introduction of the understated jazz trumpet line that envelops the first half of the track, while the seamless transition to a more inorganic synth line during the second half of the track lends credence to the production level that No Regular Play regularly reaches.

This is definitely one remix EP you won’t want to miss. Pick up your copy today!
