Sweden's The Radio Dept. seems to return to their gauzy dream pop sound on new single "Your True Name". The track was released on the band's newly created label, Just So! There was an infamous struggle with their longtime label Labrador Records over publishing rights that has since been resolved, but delayed the release of last year's dark, moody dance record Running Out Of Love in the process. Now The Radio Dept. are free to release music as they see fit, and "Your True Name" is the first taste in hopefully a long line of new tunes from the duo. With a warm snare and driving groove, the band's typical layer of distortion and hushed vocals are ever-present, as are the expert guitar melodies.
Perhaps the return to form is predicated on the fact that they are repressing their 2003 debut album Lesser Matters for an upcoming US tour. Or maybe the band is just looking to recapture that crisp indie pop sound that made them an underground hit in the first place. Nevertheless, it works.
