Losing a friend or family member is near impossible thing to articulate. The feelings that come with that sort of loss can hit all at once, or slowly over time. But in every situation, it’s a brutal experience and one that begs for an outlet. London born artist, Piers James, unfortunately, went through this sort of experience. A close family friend passed from a rare kidney cancer, leaving behind a son and family with broken hearts. In loving memory of his friend Gemma, he penned “Lost Ones” and is sending all the proceeds from the track to Gemma’s son and family.
“Los Ones” starts with a beautiful piano melody and for nearly a minute before Piers’ raw vocals come in. From there, Piers sings his sorrows, addressing Gemma and his feelings about the situation. It’s a tough thing to do, and Piers does it well, giving a beautiful message to his friend and addressing how terrible it is to lose a loved one.
About the situation, Piers says, “Sometimes in life, we can get so caught up on the frivolous things, we forget that life is short and you never really know when you’re going to have to say goodbye to your loved ones. So things like these really put life into perspective and make you realise that we shouldn’t ever take family, friends or any relationship we have for granted – appreciate and be thankful for the things you have in life.” True that man, true that.
