Another week, another dope track from DAP The Contract. On his latest offering, DAP spills his heart to the world with the video for “Open Letter II.”
Directed, produced, written and rapped by DAP, “Open Letter II” is an immensely personal song that addresses DAP’s mindstate and current life situation. The video is wonderfully simple and features two quick written blurbs from the artist thanking his friends and family for their support which bookends a single shot of DAP rapping.
“Open Letter II” is yet another reason why DAP is destined to shine. Aside from the fact that he gracefully opens up about his hopes and fears, his rhyme scheme on the song is impressive. Instead of simply sticking with the A, A, A, A format that most seem keen to use these days, DAP starts off with A, A, A, A, and then switches to an A, B, A, B structure before bringing in the chorus. Maybe that’s not a big deal to you, but for those of us who appreciate a more intricate rhyme scheme, it’s a welcome addition.
While all of the above is impressive in its own right, DAP is still in Law School, making him easily one of the hardest working young rappers in the game today. Until next Thursday, press play on “Open Letter II” above and keep your ears locked on EARMILK for all things DAP The Contract.
