Seattle singer MistaDC is back with yet another shining example of why the Pacific Northwest is a hotbed for artistic talent with his video for “SUNRAYS."
Directed by Brian Hutson, the black and white visuals focus on MistaDC, both as a kid and grownup, examining the site of a shooting. According to the artist himself, the video is an ode to a friend who died in a similar vein. “Due to the content of the video and personal significance of the song, this was a hard visual to complete, but I wanted to use these frames to both honor loved ones I’ve lost and illuminate issues we face today.”
Aside from the fact that the video displays a powerful and important message, the song itself is also beautiful. DC has a voice that seems to fill up the room whenever it comes waltzing through the door, and that much is true on “SUNRAYS.” Couple those great vocals with a warm and upbeat piano-laden beat by Kyo-Ken, and you’ve got yourself a hit.
