Aaron Maine has shared a new song with us today called "Country", a tender, intimate, and minimal tune that finds Maine's project Porches undergoing another sonic shift. After crafting a bright and unique electronic pop sound on last year's breakthrough album Pool which was his first record since signing with Domino, Maine has pared down the energy and lively percussion, instead creating a touching if slightly off-kilter ballad that builds effectively despite its runtime barely crossing the two minute mark.
In the video, which was co-directed by Maine and Nicholas Harwood, Maine spends the majority of his screentime laying in the back of a pickup truck. As the song progresses, some beautiful vocal harmonies are added, bringing a heavenly quality to the tune, which is reinforced with a final organ chord that brings the song to a droning close. "Country" is a prime example of a song that does a lot with a little.
