Los Angeles-based fusion artist Rane Raps is finding the intersection of rap, soul, and funk, and happily creating in that space. His latest, "17" is a testament to his explorative style. Spitting a bouncy flow over a flute melody, Rane's rapping exists somewhere between a young Andre 3000 and a young Childish Gambino. His bright cadence and charming persona make "17" one of the most uplifting hustling anthems out there.
About the track, Rane says: "'17' is my validation of my teenage years while negating a major trope in rap. To be a real hustler can mean more than criminal activity, and for me, the way I hustled in my youth gave me pocket change to not only help my parents pay for college, but invest in my passion: music."
