Jessie J's new single waves a triumphant flag for the state of pop music

I am repeating myself, but we are an in an amazing age for pop music, with women singer-songwriters leading the charge. Of course, we have the new wave of artists – Lorde, Billie Ellish, Alessia Cara – but one member of the movement's initial wave is back. Jessie J burst into the pop music scene in 2011 with her chunky bangs and Who You Are, where we first heard "Price Tag." Now, the multi-platinum singer, songwriter and artist has returned for her first album release since 2014. 

When we last left her, Jessie J was at the top of pop with "Bang Bang," a track certifiably a song of the year in 2014 (literally – the song went 5x Platinum in the US that year). Now, she's reemerged as a new self, edgy, sexy and as sure of herself as ever. After releasing "Real Deal" to announce her upcoming album this year, Jessie J has released the second single off the forthcoming R.O.S.E., due out in 2018. The track, "Think About That," is immediately gripping, and we are immediately faced with the fact that Jessie J might still sing pop music in the deeper soulful way she always has, but there is something more grown up about this one. Against the moving, sexy, black and white visuals, "Think About That" is memorable, emotional and is a song that makes us aware of the time we're in. Here, Jessie J allows us to get lost in her music, while all the while piquing our awareness – a task we now know is hard to do.

"Think About That" is out now via Lava / Republic Records. Jessie J has also announced a small world tour, with intriguing small venue appearances in the US this fall.
