Weaves share new single and video, "Walkaway"

Weaves is readying the release of their upcoming sophomore album Wide Open, due out October 6 via Buzz Records, Kanine Records and Memphis Industries. They've already shared the album's first single with the anthemic "#53", and now they've given us a new video with the delightfully catchy "Walkaway".

The song strikes as bright and colorful, from its leading guitar melody toward singer Jasmyn Burke's opening lines. Burke sings with such command with a touch of pop, weaving in and out of high notes that nearly shake her voice and glide just above a politely chugging rhythm section and a line of feel-good guitars. It's a happy track about overcoming negativity, rather than harnessing the focus on it.

Singer Jasmyn Burke describes the track as "a song about empowerment and finding light in the darkness."

"This is a reflective song in tone and at the time I wrote it I was stuck in a moment of having to make a decision to stay or leave an unhealthy situation," says Burke. "It's okay to admit that we're vulnerable and having a hard time and sometimes you have to just walk away."

Burke also commented on utilizing her voice more on the upcoming record Walk Away, in an attempt to feel confident and less vulnerable about using her talents. It certainly shows with "Walkaway," as she takes center-stage not only displaying her vocal skills, but also seemingly appearing more fierce in visuals for "Walkaway" than we typical see her.

The video was directed by the band's guitarist, Morgan Waters, and was shot at the same time as the album's cover, which Burke says was inspired by the iconic final scene in the film Heathers, and ties in thematically with both the song and the album as a whole.

The video above was directed by Weaves guitarist Morgan Waters and was shot at the same time as the Wide Open's cover. It's inspired by the final scene of the film Heathers.
