As a producer, the stylistic choice of including your own vocals on a track can serve as an earnest olive branch of connection to the listener. Polished female vocals are at home in dance music, but there's something about an angst-ridden male voice that immediately evokes the rawness of punk/post-hardcore. When Ray Volpe screams "I don't know what's real anymore" on the lead single "Reality" off his forthcoming EP of the same name – you feel him. The Charlotte-based artist explained that "Reality" is "the first song in a journey of deep emotions from the past year that I really just want to share with you all." Volpe earned his stripes in the harder bass community, and the connection to a similarly high energy and evocative genre – albeit outside the realm of traditional EDM – is a strong one.
Stream "Reality" now when you pre-order Reality (September 5) on iTunes.
