Stefanie Franciotti, the Austin singer and producer behind the Sleep ∞ Over project, is back for the first time in 4 years after her 2013 digital single "Rooftop", and nearly 7 years after her debut album, Forever. On the new single, "Don't Wanna Hide", Franciotti ditches the lo-fi guitars, dream pop vibes, and pretty much anything else Sleep ∞ Over was known for during their time on the experimental Hippos In Tanks roster. Now, it seems, Franciotti has crafted herself a future R&B tune more in line with Kelela and Jessy Lanza.
The beat is built on crisp snaps, trap hi hats, and a booming 808 kick, as Franciotti's confident and sultry voice shines over top of electronic arpeggios and moody piano chords. The title of the track itself is a declaration of the apparent new direction Sleep ∞ Over is heading toward. With no label or news of an album yet, however, Franciotti could theoretically take the project in any direction. If she decides to stick with this one, though, you won't hear any complaining from me.
