It’s a gloomy day here in the Windy City, but thankfully the summertime spirit is kept alive in the blissfully sun-soaked track “What’s On Your Mind”. The single, released by the London-based Swimming Tapes, is the latest of the band’s forthcoming EP, Soft Sea Blue. It’s a wonderfully relaxing, beautifully orchestrated, beachy tune apt for a sunny Saturday afternoon with your toes in the sand. The sweet, rich guitars dance and sparkle over a grooving baseline in a way that’s both effortless and relaxing. “What’s On Your Mind” is an effortless blend of styles, drawing a lo-fi sound and mellowed vocals from shoegaze in a manner evocative of Slowdive, and dreamy guitars and a low-key beat from dream pop.
2017 has been a successful year already for Swimming Tapes, who made their debut just last year. A sold-out first headline show in London, amassing over 2 million streams on Spotify, and plays across multiple radio stations are just a few of the accomplishments the band has racked up in their relatively fresh career.
Soft Sea Blue is out on September 15th via Hand In Hive/B3SCI, and pre-order is available here. Swimming Tapes will return to London to headline a show on September 20th with more dates to be announced soon.
