In the dance music world, Monstercat is the North Star. No matter how vehemently a style of music can be bastardized, commercialized, packaged, and sold to the masses, those Canadian geniuses find a way to breathe new life into it. Leading the charge is their Maple Leaf countryman Conro, whose early musical journey began with a 3-year stint playing violin in the Saskatoon Youth Symphony orchestra, followed by a burning desire to learn piano, guitar, and drums. These passions are still nurtured by Conro to this day, and quite evident in the musicality and polish found in his work. This is the kind of technically skilled artist I want to see making popular EDM. "Close," his latest single from forthcoming EP Connecting The Dots (Monstercat), is at its core a love ballad, accented by Conro's world-class production (those saws!) and a satisfying dose of melancholy. Could Conro be the prince that was promised?
