A rising star and activist coming out of Chicago, Ric Wilson dropped his soulful Negrow Disco EP earlier this year as a follow up to his 2016 project Soul Bounce. Consisting of four breezy tracks, the Negrow Disco EP ushered in the care-free days of summer with its infectious grooves and syncopated rhythms. As Wilson notes, the project was inspired by the disco movement, pioneered by people of color and the LGBTQ community. To keep things light on this Fourth of July weekend, Ric Wilson brings us colorful and near-ecstatic visuals for the EP’s standout track, “Hang Loose.”

From block to block, this video is a celebration of life and identity. Moving between his sunny singing voice and the tinge of rasp in his rapping voice, Ric Wilson flows effortless over horns and bright swaths of synth. He’s literally hanging on the playground, stress free, and enjoying life for what it is. We could all probably stand to take a lesson or two from the exuberant tones of this video.
