Porches comes through with a minimalist remix of Alex G's "Sportstar"

Porches, also known as indie rock turned synth pop extraordinaire Aaron Maine, released a rare remix yesterday. Putting a minimalist spin on fellow label-mate (Sandy) Alex G's "Sportstar", he chose one of the more idiosyncratic tunes from Alex's latest album, Rocket, released this May via Domino Records. On the remix, Porches takes an interesting risk and strips the auto-tune originally slathered over Alex's vocals, pairing his essentially naked, unadorned voice with an equally sparse beat and atmosphere. A shy bass line, soft kick drum, and woozy synth drone carry the first half of the track, until some piano chords are introduced and the song gets a bit more vibrant. At the 2:10 mark, the track drops out from under us before we're treated to a brief instrumental passage with some beautiful glitched vocals, presumably snippets of Alex's voice. The synth drone introduced early on then carries us out to the end of the track, wrapping up another example of Porches' typically experimental take on synth pop.

Stream the video above, and be sure to check Alex G out on tour currently with Japenese Breakfast and Cende.
