UK production duo and frequent Mura Masa collaborators WITHOUT are out with a new single, "Wanta Be", that takes the best from R&B, trap, tropical house and club music and creates something completely new and different. The track kicks off with one of WITHOUT's members commenting over recordings of a tide. Then, a beat that sounds like something hot from Pharrell in the mid-2000s comes in. The production completely changes in the pre-chorus, adopting a trap beat that builds into a chorus full of funky bass, hard-hitting drums, swirling synths and even steel drum hits. The rest of the song is a sonic roller coaster, with twists turns and bumps that will keep you guessing. The track also features some beautiful, soulful vocals that sound like NAO, another frequent Mura Masa collaborator, but that are uncredited.
Previously, WITHOUT dropped an EP on Dim Mak and remixed Little Boots' sleeper hit, "Better In the Morning." "Wanta Be" marks a distinct evolution in sound. We can't wait to hear what comes next.
