It isn’t often you come across a rapper – or any artist for that matter – whose song so effortlessly showcases their personality. As if, after one listen, you know exactly who this person is, and feel as though you’ve known them a lifetime. While a rarity, it does happen, and Devin XO is one of those rappers.

The title of his latest release, “Social Anxiety,” paints a clear picture of what to expect from Devin. However, what makes “Social Anxiety” and Devin XO a joy to listen to is not just the content, but the way it's delivered.
“Social Anxiety” is a quirky-ass song. Straight up. And you can tell, right from the start, Devin XO is a quirky dude. The track starts off with an infomercial-esque skit about falling victim to the ills of social anxiety and then drops into the first verse. The beat is happy-go-lucky which mirrors the intended aesthetic perfectly, as do Devin’s verses, which he crushes by the way.
What puts Devin in a world of his own, though, is how he handles the chorus. While singing along, Devin interjects here and there giving the sense that he doesn’t take himself too seriously. In 2017, rappers are always taking jabs at each other trying to be the best, be it outright or surreptitiously. It’s nice to find somebody who is rapping for the sake of rapping, and happy with delivering a message that is true to their individual nature.
