California-based funk marvel Harriet Brown was last featured on EARMILK when he released the vibrant single/video for "MBC" back in 2015. In the time since Harriet has been hosting his own show, All About Our Love, on LA's new NTS Radio platform, mastering his already superb live show setup, and has been meticulously piecing together his debut project. Today the songwriter has decided to release the first single off of his upcoming Contact LP (via Innovative Leisure), a minimal slow-burner titled "Obsession".
The single opens with a lush two-minute intro segment that showcases Harriet's penchant for silky smooth synth melodies, string harmonies, and drum hits lifted straight out of the 80's . By the time Harriet's vocal enters the mix, the track becomes a bonafied scorcher that manages to be a spiritual progression of the sound pioneered by Prince & company rather than a mere tribute.
