It's not so often that we get a digital version of Mess Kid. Preferring releases on vinyl and cassette, the LA-based producer and DJ is a realist, looking to stay as close to his music as possible by honoring its roots and the quality that comes with physical ownership of music. But in 2016, Mess Kid dropped a rare track on his SoundCloud page. An homage to Rihanna and her music's island roots"RiRi Riddim" brought dancehall and club music together in one chopped and screwed production. This week, he's dropped another Rihanna banger using samples of "Sex With Me" from last year's ANTI. Aptly titled "SWM", the groovy tune comes ahead of a full RiRi-inspired EP RIH-MIX that will be out January 23rd. We'll enjoy the project's second track until then.
