It's a rare occurrence when an artist can equally balance experimentation in conjunction to true soul in their production. Finding an optimal way to do this is difficult without undermining either components. Masters of the art form of the indie electronic hybrid include substantial talents such as James Blake, Bon Iver, Sampha, Nick Murphy (formerly known as Chet Faker). Humbly swimming amongst this rare breed of artists is Melbourne based Abraham Tilbury, who takes his musicality to another level by not adhering to any cookie cutter trend.
The artist's library is endearing and colourful, boasting an eclectic selection of chilled out beats and powerful ballads dancing upon glowing ambient works. In his most recent unveiling "Morphine", he combines quirky metallic synths with a falsetto to make all knees weak.

Today, EARMILK has the opportunity to present Abraham Tilbury's latest, "California", a hazy daydream in sonic form. Beginning with mundane white noise, slips of a conversation and cadences of an echo, Tilbury's honey coated voice welcomes listeners into a state of ironically wakeful slumber. What makes "California" such an innovative track is Tilbury's tactful dexterity in sound design. Almost unsettling distortions are sprinkled throughout the track, but only add to the poignant fragility in Tilbury's emotionally doused vocals. Unprecedented breaks, glitch and manipulations breathe in and out of "California". This sporadic nature Abraham Tilbury creates, paints the scene of a multifaceted diptych by combining unhindered emotion within disintegrating sounds that stand as perfectly imperfect.
‘On reflection, California highlights that change comes from within. I wrote the lyrics around a year ago, and after moving and being around less live instruments I explored excessive production and sampling techniques that would help ‘California’ flourish from its bare form." – Abraham Tilbury
