Maryland rapper K.A.A.N. has been up to something lately. About a month ago he dropped a project with producer Genshin, and has since put out two songs on his SoundCloud. His buzz has been growing, and the attention he is getting is well deserved. You would be hard pressed to find anyone who can go bar for bar with the Maryland emcee. He spits quickly on every song without ever seeming like he is trying to force a specific sound. Some of his tracks seem to ride a smooth beat, but yet others contain rough, gritty sounds hitting hard on bass-filled beats. His flow is not the only thing setting him apart, as the rhymes that are incorporated within this flow are far from average for a SoundCloud rapper who has grown organically online. K.A.A.N. stands for Knowledge Above All Nonsense, and it is clear he is not messing around.
He released a new song and video on Friday. The song, appropriately titled "The OJ's", features a sample from 1975 in the song "I Love Music" by The O'Jays. The only way to describe the track is quick, hard bars over a catchy sample with a heavy beat produced by Lemmy Beats and Ayo Jerm. The video, shot by The_Faiz_Phase in Baltimore, Maryland, features the quick-spitting lyricist rapping across the city in front of huge buildings, boats, and waterfronts. It captures the calm side of a city known for its toughness. Watch it here:
