ScHoolboy Q's sophomore studio album, Blank Face, is on the short list of one of the best hip-hop albums of 2016. Although we are already two months removed from the project release, the Hoover Street rapper refuses to allow it to go the way of the Dodo bird and maintains a steady rollout cycle for new singles or videos. His latest set of visuals accompanies the E-40 assisted "Dope Dealer."
One of the standout tracks from Blank Face, "Dope Dealer" now has an equally memorable video to its name. Instead of featuring a smokey booth and random scenes of hot people aimlessly enjoying weed, Top Dawg Entertainment representative decides to tell a story of the entire illicit marijuana industry. The video begins with a woman planting the seeds and actually ends with the rappers opening the ziploc, anxious to start smoking the product. While ScHoolboy and E-40 are mostly spliced in doing typical rapper things, i.e. smoking massive blunts and chilling, the scenes that follow the main story line are beautifully jarring.
ScHoolboy Q's "Dope Dealer" depicts the large-scale grow communities, the life or death lifestyle that dealers lead, and the uncomfortable reality of police corruption, especially towards women. Some of the scenes will stay with you for a little bit and will come as a shock; however, it is an incredibly engaging piece of work. Definitely check it out above.
