LA-based MC James McCall, who is better known as Nocando, is a certified legend on the West Coast underground scene who first earned his stripes as a dominating force in the battle rap circuit. Up until recently he was also known for his role as co-founder & resident host of the world famous Low End Theory showcase, but has seemingly cut ties with the event in order to re-orient his solo career and to focus on restructuring his HellFyre Club record label.
Today, EARMILK has been given the opportunity to premiere the first single and visual off of Nocando's upcoming Kingsnake LP entitled "ZEROES". Produced by Dream Panther and Presstones, this single marks a stylistic shift in the artist's process by going for a much more free-form approach to songwriting. He gives listeners a much more candid view of his mind-state as he vents about being rejected by his closest associates, the dissolution of a long-term relationship, and still feeling like an underdog in the city that raised him.
Though I've been making and releasing music for years I've lead multiple lives I spent a lot of time freestyling and battling on street corners and open mics around Los Angeles. I never once thought to put the freestyle stuff to use in the studio. I always looked at the written word as a sacred thing, like a wife and the freestyle stuff was for nights out drinking and in shady places much like a mistress. This is the first song that I'm ever releasing where my mistress becomes my main thing. King snake has more freestyles recorded than I've ever released and to be honest is my best work to date.
Watch the Grant Duncan directed visual above and be sure to cop the Kingsnake LP when it is released next month!
