The lotus flower often serves as a symbol for rebirth, and living up to that implication, Brooklyn’s Chordashian has emerged with new life. With “Lotus,” Chordashian has also announced that it is now the solo project of Michael Banks. Over the past years, we’ve loved what Felix had to contribute to the dreamy and alluring tracks of the duo, but Michael has decided to carry onward in a direction filled with texture and soul.

Swaying melodies and intricate layers of percussion come together for a unique experience with this debut track. “Lotus” has a bit of Asian influence in the cutesy, playful synth lines that reminds me of Tokyo’s Boys Get Hurt—there’s even a similar sense of longing in the way those melodies are constructed.
The dynamics and rhythms are more in line with hip-hop or bass music, so Chordashian’s “Lotus” might even entice new fans with these heady builds and drops. It will be exciting to see what new plans Michael has for this next chapter of Chordashian, make sure to grab this freebie and follow along!
