There has been quite a resurgence of Bay Area hip-hop in recent years with the rise of San Francisco's HBK Gang (IAMSU!, Sage The Gemini, Kehlani), Oakland's G-EAZY, and the recent ascendance of Kamaiyah, who may have just put out one of the best mixtapes of the year. Another artist whose managed to garner a considerable amount of praise in the last year with the Hella Good LP is Caleb Parker, who performs under the name Caleborate. Often referring to himself as TBKTR (The Black Kid That Raps), Caleb has proven himself to a MC in the purest form, eschewing the flashy brag raps for a centered focus on precise wordplay and introspective storytelling paired with some of the best production that the Bay can offer.
As he prepares for the release of his upcoming 1993 project, EARMILK has been given the opportunity to debut the first single "08". The soulful cut is an ode to the The Carter 3 era Lil Wayne when he was arguably the best rapper alive, with a beat that is reminiscent of the Kanye West produced classic "Let The Beat Build" courtesy of Kuya Beats & P-Lo. Caleb delivers with two heartfelt verses that showcase his adept wordplay and unfaltering sense of confidence that completely overtake the instrumental, a quality that will hopefully have him at Weezy level someday. Listen to the new single and be sure to check out 1993 when it is released this summer!
