There are breakup songs and then there are makeup songs, but what about the songs that fall sort of in-between? Boston-based duo Sundial's new track lies in that category, and does so with the most engaging of flairs.
The beginning of "Your Diary" opens with Dorothy and Jisu singing, "Two am, Friday night / Another pointless fight", before jumping into deadpan line, "You agree to disagree / What do you want from me"?
Voices are quickly overtaken by a haphazard yet bouncy and lighthearted style of production, with vibrant synths, clicking locks, and bubbles intermingling to create bursts of chaotic sound, highlighting the emotions of this type of moment that can't be expressed in words.
Finally, everything starts settling down and resolutions are made: "All the times that you were right, I was blind so I would fight / All the times that I would cry, I wanted you to hold me tight / Cause I need you" and the vivid production once again takes over before ending the song quietly with piano chords.
Overall, "Your Diary" is a lovely track that truthfully captures experiencing a moment of stifled frustration in a relationship.
This track is the second in Sundial's "Yours" EP so make sure to stay updated on their next few releases.
