The month of May has been an overwhelming month for new releases. Amidst the momentous releases from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tourist, Radiohead, Anohni, and Kaytranada — one hellbent UK singer / songwriter, Annabel Jones, released her debut Libelle EP via Crooked Paintings / Atlantic Records. Annabel is a pop rebel with a cause, creating her own style of dark pop that is vulnerable, empowered, and inspiring.
The EP is 5 songs and features hits like “Magnetic,” which Annabel made her debut with — as well as “IOU,” which is a playfully snarky pop song full of power and personality. New songs like “Money, Love, Success” are a bit brighter and you can hear the influence of one the EP’s producers, Dj Jimmy Tamborello (The Postal Service) shine through.
