The cool water slowly rolls over the tops of your feet, the wind from the ocean rustles the hair brushed over your ears. Your skin becomes red from the sun and rush of blood to your face as your breathing quickens. You look to the person on your left, anxious to make the first move, as your heart flutters faster and faster. In essence, that is the delicate beauty that Yumi Zouma captures in their latest release, “Barricade (Matter of Fact).” Muted synths and fragile vocals swell and caresses, delighting the senses with jubilation with every light crescendo. From our perspective, the song is about these barricades we repress ourselves with in life — whether it be in the name of love or the name of self-doubt.
Barricades is the second release of the group’s forthcoming album Yoncalla, out May 27th, available on vinyl, and on iTunes. They will be hitting the road as well, you can see their tour dates below.
