It's a surreal feeling when your current emotions seem coincidently aligned with an aural experience. Not only is it pleasing to the ears but provides a sense of warmth and security, as if the track is everything you needed in that space and time. This is not a common occurrence but when serendipity favours my emotions, there's obviously some substantial resonance within the sound-waves pumping through my headphones. This is how MICA's "Lin" featuring Lodent and Margaret Knapp stood out for me.
MICA is relatively unknown in the music world, as this is his first release through Amorous Collective, based out of Chicago/Grand Rapids. The track is accompanied by LODENT, a young wunderkind at only 16 years old, who's constantly turning in incredibly deep electronic works. The serene vocals are provided by chanteuse Margeret Knapp, who's silky tones attribute to the raw emotions seeping through the track. The three in collaboration create for an honest masterpiece that lifts electronic music into a cluster of vulnerable emotion.
"Lin" is a medium of bliss with and is extremely poignant in it's careful construction of sounds. The intro begins with a gradual layering of white noise and flickering synths that breathe in and out the vocals. Margaret Knapp's echoey vocals perfectly compliment the complex layers present throughout the track. Between quiet murmurs and self-reflective thoughts spoken, the track unwinds itself into a cyclone of sound. Romantic yet daunting, the dreamy aesthetic connects to our most bittersweet moments and the hypnotizing nature of "Lin" speaks to the brightest and darkest worlds deep in our mind.
