A friend and I reminisced this week over the golden days of Wiz Khalifa. Yes, I know, I'm writing about Wiz. Although, today is only about one of the best beats he ever dawned over. That song was called "Ink My Whole Body" but today Kaiydo gives us the "Lottery".
Last week I introduced you to Jumpin Jay, a rapper/songwriter out of Massachusetts with a new style and a refreshing soul. Kaiydo is his counterpart, co-heading Everyday Friday, a newly formed collective on my radar. I was impressed with Jay, and I'm even more impressed with the flow of Kaiydo. It takes me back to the simpler days when rhyming was just about your timing, lyrics, and clever ability to twist words into pictures. The young rapper does a great job at leaving this simplicity in the mix. The sample is drowned out and slowed down, the same sort of way "Drive Slow" took Pharcyde back a few paces. I love this flashback, and I know any hip-hop head would love Kaiydo's trip down memory lane.
