In the mid-to-late 90's R&B was at its peak. The grooves were sexy, the beats were slow, and the lyrics were hotter than D'Angelo's six pack. Fast forward two decades and you'd struggle to decipher R&B artist Joe Hertz from the heavy hitters of that time. In songs like "Stay Lost," his sound is soulful and sexy; mixing drum machines and synthesizers effortlessly to create a bedroom vibe that will have every listener biting their lip. Australian producer Cabu took the sultry beat and soaked it in kerosene and future house/disco/bass whatever — it's dope as hell. Wonky bass and high pitched synths score the melody while driving percussion gives the song a kick push rhythm that would have every 90s mom in the roller rink turning up. Somewhere between the cheeky disco of Bondax and the experimental future bass of Kaytranada lies the style of Cabu, and it is one we can definitely get behind. Groove to the remix above and vibe to the original below.
