Japanese experimentalist Kyoka returns March 25 with a new four-track EP, SH, out on the eclectic Berlin-based label, Raster-Noton. Her sound is in the same vein as artists like Lotic and Fatima al Qadiri, full of off-kilter beat patterns and industrial-strength menace. "Smash/Hush" is the first glimpse of the EP, a malevolent track that doesn't quite explode at any point, but isn't too heavy on the hush either. With numerous layers all jockeying for position like shifting tectonic plates, "Smash/Hush" lies quivering on the edge of a sonic abyss. Check it out below.
