There is something about anthemic tunes that create this insatiable earworm that sticks in your head weeks after the first listen. It took me literally two full months to go one day without getting Adele’s “Hello” stuck in head (this isn’t an exaggeration.) Thankfully that passed and then a new one shimmied into my lap called “Spirits,” from the rising indie outfit The Strumbellas. A repetitive chorus with driving chords and percussion and catchy melodies assure that it will work it’s way into your ear and stay there, and that is a great thing. Eating dinner, sitting at my desk, talking to my friends the line in the chorus “guns in my head and they won’t go,” pops in and just as the song says, it won’t go. It’s a delightful three minutes and thirty-two seconds of catchy indie rock that you’ll find yourself singing along to. It’s the first release off their forthcoming album Hope, which is out April 22 on Glassnote Records. Watch the video for the song below.
