Handpicked by Point Point's record label, French producer Marlin has recently debuted his first single "Train of Thought" off his upcoming EP, Everlasting. The track and debut EP will be released by Record Record, recognized for curating a roster of creative electronic producers offering high quality production work that range from future R&B to trap.
There is little to be found riddling the internet of Marlin at this point. Aside from several impressive originals and remixes, there is much to discover about the young producer hailing from France. At only 19 years old, Marlin has produced official remixes for several established artists including household French artist Sebastien Tellier and Belgian soul-singer Selah Sue. Marlin's cutting edge material on his SoundCloud dawdles lines of subgenres, with each track unveiling unexpected musical inspirations. Crossing over strands of classical, old school funk, french house and inventive future R&B vibes, Marlin showcases a timeless taste that audiences can get excited about. The new EP Everlasting has yet to announce a release date.
"Train of Thought" encompasses a mature debut single from Marlin, depicting a grunginess in it's atmosphere yet being audibly crisp in it's production. The track begins with a classical piano riff and seemingly sets the scene to a film noir. The sampling of the water pouring illustrates a pictorial of a man doing so, at a late night diner, shadows gracing his face and wallowing in existential thoughts. When a track dictates an imaginative experience, that's when a listener knows it is beyond music to be heard and should be appreciated as art. The string-imitating synths set a melancholic tone until it is collided with a bass heavy sidechain and sophisticated hip hop beats. Incorporating both original hip hop beats as well as more peculiar future sounds, Marlin's new track is substantial in it's authenticity. The entirety of dimensional track is stippled in mundane samples ranging from a dog barking to romantic feminine vocals , to create for a beautifully curious work of art . Listen to the track below.
