As I grow into my mid-twenties, I think back on the albums that influenced my taste like Illmatic, Late Registration, Self Explanatory, Masters of the Universe, and even Army of The Pharaohs as a whole. You can tell from that sentence that I'm a bit eclectic when it comes to hip-hop and rap, but nothing compares to the current state of rap as a so called "parent genre".
If you're confused by what I mean, I urge you to listen to CULTURE by TAC XII. It's not TAC's first time within my sights, nor do I see this as his last. He's combined everything he loves, everything we love, and pretty much everything in between. You hear those same influences I had on "My Town" and "Hey Boii", but we also hear the future with "Night Like This". I'm astounded, plain and simple, that someone can be this flexible within one project.
The native San Diegan spent some time with me the past few months, sharing one off tracks every once in awhile as he built up my anticipation for the album with every visit. I'm glad to see the project has taken off in a matter of one month, and I again urge you to hop on his train before it leaves the station.
